Doing Church Differently In Sarasota
A quick broad stroke of the vision of One Life Church in Sarasota:
The Biblical
We get our name from John 17 where the Son talks to the Father and as Jesus is praying He prays for his disciples (those who did and would believe). He prayed for God to “make them one with you just as I am one with You” and “make them one with one another.” The result of that is the world would know God, that we would be a witness to the world.
It’s all about living our individual lives for Jesus, being rooted in Him. And it also means doing life together in community and unity with other believers.
The Missional
In Sarasota, we see so many people move here for the beaches, play pickleball and enjoy life. But life is bigger than that. There are so many talented retiree age business people, entrepreneurs, creative minds and others who are sitting on the sidelines. They have with great stories, experiences and trials they have overcome to share with other people.
We want to be very intentional about crafting a discipleship process that will take people who are on the sidelines, pull them back in and equip them to mentor younger people.
We hear all the time from young people, “How do I find a mentor?” and “What does that look like?”
We would love to partner these people for a season of their lives with mentors. Maybe they are looking for guidance about marriage, singleness, dating, money, raising kids, entrepreneurship, ministry. In essence we are pairing people who have a lot to give and pairing them with a younger person to maximize their future.
This is what we mean by, “Making the most of your one life now and for eternity.”
